Energy Associate
FluidStack — Austin, Texas, United States · In-Person · Junior
Role description
Role Overview
The Energy Associate will be responsible for diligence prospective sites across both paths to power, grid interconnection, and behind-the-meter generation, and turn each one into a go or no-go recommendation in days rather than weeks. They will build and own the delivered cost of power model across candidate sites and both paths, from tariffs and network upgrade exposure on the grid side to gas basis, transport, heat rate, and availability behind the meter.
What You Will Do
The Energy Associate will be the single source of truth on where every site stands, queue position, and study milestones on the grid side, contracted fuel and generation position behind the meter, and what has to happen next on each. They will run the diligence file on every live site, tariff filings and interconnection studies, pipeline and interconnect agreements, air permits, offtake term sheets, and generation specifications, kept clean enough to walk a counterparty or a lender through cold.
Why It Might Be a Fit
The ideal candidate will have built a model that someone traded, invested, or committed capital off, and they can defend every assumption in it under pressure. They will have read a contract, tariff, or study report closely and pulled out the two or three terms that actually change the economics, rather than summarizing the whole thing.
Requirements
- built a model that someone traded, invested, or committed capital off
- read a contract, tariff, or study report closely and pulled out the two or three terms that actually change the economics
- turned a disordered data room into a one-page recommendation that names the thing the decision actually turns on
- caught a material error in someone else's work before it reached a decision maker, and raised it rather than working around it
- been dropped into a market or an asset class you did not know and been useful inside a few weeks, and you can point to how you got up to speed
Benefits
- Commodities trading or analytics desks in gas or power
- Origination and structuring teams, especially PPA and offtake work
- Large load or generator interconnection across one or more ISOs
- Transaction diligence from M&A, project finance, or infrastructure investing
- Behind-the-meter or distributed generation development
- Modelling and data tooling
