Role description

Role Overview

The Gas Supply Manager will develop and run the natural gas management and trading strategy for Nscale's power and energy assets, beginning with the Monarch campus in West Virginia and extending to every site where the Power & Energy group supplies gas-fired generation. The role reports to the SVP, Development initially and is expected to report to the Director of Midstream Assets & Fuel Supply once that position is in place. The two measures of success are security of supply and delivered cost at each site.

What You Will Do

The Gas Supply Manager will develop and maintain the gas management and trading strategy for Nscale's power assets, set the risk framework for supply reliability and cost across the portfolio, model and report the delivered cost of gas to each site, and identify and execute opportunities to reduce it.

Why It Might Be a Fit

The right person has bought and managed gas supply for power plants, a utility or large industrial loads, understands the producers and pipelines serving the basins where Nscale builds, and is as comfortable structuring a supply portfolio as holding a supplier to its contract.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in natural gas supply, trading, origination or fuel management for a utility, generator, marketer or producer, including responsibility for a supply portfolio.
  • Experience negotiating gas supply and transportation agreements directly with producers, marketers and interstate pipelines.
  • Experience managing third-party schedulers, agents or consultants, or leading a scheduling and settlement function.
  • Experience supplying gas to power plants or other large, variable industrial loads, ideally across more than one site or region, is strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of gas supply contract structures (NAESB base contract and special provisions), pipeline tariffs, firm and interruptible transportation, interconnect agreements, and imbalance and penalty provisions.
  • Understanding of scheduling and nomination mechanics, balancing and settlement, sufficient to set service levels and audit suppliers.
  • Familiarity with hedging instruments, basis and price risk, and the credit terms used in gas supply.
  • Knowledge of the Appalachian Basin and the interstate pipelines serving West Virginia and Ohio is strongly preferred; familiarity with other North American gas markets is a plus.

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, flexible paid time off, parental leave, and retirement plan participation.
  • Bonus, equity, and/or commission programs may be available.
